I've photographed ballrooms that cost more than most people's homes, and banquet halls in the bylanes of Mumbai. In every single one of them, I find myself searching for the same two faces in the crowd. The mother straightening her saree a little too many times. The father who hasn't sat down all evening but suddenly goes very quiet in one corner.
